A room-by-room calculation works out the heat loss of each space separately. That is the level of detail needed to size individual radiators or underfloor heating loops correctly.

Why go down to room level

A west-facing corner room and an internal bedroom have very different needs. A whole-house figure hides that, leaving some rooms overheated and others cold.
